AED Pads and Batteries
Keeping an AED rescue-ready involves replacing the system battery and electrode pads periodically. Like all batteries, AED batteries have a limited lifespan, even when they are in standby mode or completely unused. Defibrillator electrode pads also have a limited shelf life. The water-based gel adhesive that allows the pad to stick to the patient dries over time, rendering the pads ineffective.
